Turmeric

Belonging to the Zingiberaceae family, Turmeric is a vibrant aromatic spice widely used in Asian cuisine to add color and a warm, slightly spicy flavor to dishes. Its orange rhizome contains curcuminoids, phytochemical compounds with powerful medicinal properties. These include anti-inflammatory effects (beneficial for arthritis), hepatoprotective action, support for respiratory and gastrointestinal health, relief for skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, and antioxidant properties with potential cancer-preventive effects.

Description

Turmeric is most commonly consumed in powdered form, or fresh and grated, as a condiment for stews, legumes, and other cooked dishes. It can also be diluted in water or juice when fresh for a health-boosting drink.

To maintain its freshness, turmeric should be stored in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from heat sources. Fresh turmeric can alternatively be kept in the refrigerator wrapped in film.
