Baby Pineapple

The pineapple, from the Bromeliaceae family, was named by early Spanish explorers for its resemblance to a pine cone. It has a thick, strong rind and bright yellow, aromatic, and sweet flesh. Numerous varieties exist, including Victoria, Spanish, Cayenne, Smooth Cayenne, Golden Sweet, Queen, and Baby, available year-round.

Description

Nutritional & Health Benefits: Pineapple is digestive and purifying, thanks to the enzyme bromelain, which aids in protein digestion. It is rich in vitamins B, C, and A, as well as iron and calcium.

Consumption: Best eaten fresh and ripe. It adds an exotic flavor to meat and fish dishes, and is ideal as a dessert—with cherry liqueur, in fruit salads, or with cream. It also enhances fruit drinks and cocktails.

Storage: Keep at room temperature to ripen. Once ripe, store in the refrigerator and consume before the flesh turns brown.
