Bitter Melon

From the Cucurbitaceae family, Bitter Melon is a tropical fruit with an oblong shape measuring 20–30 cm in length, featuring a peculiar warty surface. Its white, juicy pulp forms a thin layer around the central cavity, which houses numerous seeds that can be white or red, depending on their stage of maturity.

Description

Bitter Melon is nutrient-rich, offering a high content of vitamins B and C, minerals, natural antioxidants, iron, beta-carotene, and potassium.

Typically eaten green, its pulp has a crunchy texture similar to cucumber, though naturally bitter. To soften its flavor, it can be salted and rinsed before consumption. It is widely used in Chinese soups and teas, Indian dishes with potatoes and yogurt, and is also popular in Japanese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Filipino, Nepalese, Pakistani cuisines, as well as in Amazonian regions.

For storage, keep Bitter Melon in a hermetically sealed bag in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
