Description
Soursop has a long history of use in traditional medicine. It is often associated with anticancer properties, attributed to its annonacin content, though scientific opinions are mixed. It is also considered antimicrobial, may help regulate high blood pressure, and has antidepressant effects.
The fruit is commonly consumed in the Caribbean, Africa, and tropical Asia. It has a subacid and sweet flavor, and is popular in juices, ice creams, and soft drinks. Less acidic and lower-fiber fruits can be eaten fresh, with a spoon or chopped into salads and fruit cocktails. When mixed with milk, the drink is known as champola or carato.
Storage: Soursop can be kept at 25–27 ºC for 5–6 days. For refrigeration, a temperature of 13 ºC is recommended to maintain quality.
